Smile Makeover

Home » Smile Makeover

This is not hyperbole. It’s a fact. Many of our patients who have had Smile Makeovers have had complete and utter, 100% life transformations. Raises and promotions. New and improved relationships. Boosts self-confidence and self-esteem. Even the motivation they needed to lose weight and exercise. The list goes on. Why? They all made the decision to trust the award-winning cosmetic dentists at Dallas Laser Dentistry – called by multiple magazines among the best in town – with their smiles.

But our cosmetic dentists are more than just doctors/technicians. They’re artisans who see the whole picture – your facial structure, your personality, your clothing style, and even how you like your nails. Whether you want a subtle or dramatic change, we’ve got the procedures to make profound differences in the way you look and feel about yourself.

Take a seat in comfortable, body-hugging chairs, then breathe deep and let the bi-polar ions calm your body and soul. Your Zen is waiting.

Your Assessment Tool Kit

Tool #1 – Evaluate what you like and what you’d like changed with our Smile Assessment. Take the time to critically identify the good and the “could be better” about your current smile.

Tool #2 – Visit the office for a free smile consultation. The doctor can discuss your desires in real-time as well as offer suggestions.

Tool #3 – See Your Future with a FREE Digital Smile Simulation. No, we don’t have a crystal ball, but we do come close with our Digital Smile Simulator. All we need is a headshot taken by someone else with your head vertical (not tilted or partially turned) with you smiling as broadly as possible and you’ll see how dazzling you’ll look. By using imaging software we can approximate the smile of your dreams. Since cosmetic dentistry can be a significant investment in yourself, we’ve found many of our potential patients really appreciate seeing how their smile can be improved and quickly understand the value of having it done.

Here’s How it Works

You’ll want to get started with your Smile Makeover immediately!

  1. The first step in the process is the assessment, initially by you and then by the doctor. We have several tools to help you with this, but in the end, you and the doctor will discuss what you wish to accomplish. Be sure and check out our Smile Assessment, then schedule an in-person consultation which is complimentary.
  2. After a discussion and brief check of your current smile, Dr. Swift or Dr. Petty will then recommend what cosmetic procedures in combination will most likely provide the result you desire.
  3. A clinical exam, including X-rays, will determine what if anything needs to be done before cosmetics are started to be sure you have a healthy and optimum foundation upon which to build the Smile Makeover. The cost will be discussed with our business team, as well as payment options if desired.
  4. With the decision to go ahead, the initial appointment is scheduled, and a deposit collected or other payment arrangements made.
  5. If restorative or orthodontic treatment is needed, that is scheduled and completed first.
  6. If your mouth is healthy and your bite is correct, we’ll first laser whiten your teeth so we’ll know the shade to match against for the balance of your cosmetic procedures.

How long it takes and how many appointments are involved depends on whether restorative or orthodontic work needs to be done first, and which combination of procedures has been selected to be done. But we should be able to give you an approximate timeline for your particular situation before we start.

What Are The Different Types of Award-Winning Smile Makeovers?

#1 – The Hollywood Smile Makeover. Dazzle with Laser Teeth Whitening and Premium Porcelain Dental Veneers. Want to be red-carpet-ready with a dazzling, Hollywood smile? Dallas Laser Dentistry has had a decades-long relationship with the premium craftsmen that originated Hollywood’s DaVinci Labs, creators of DaVinci porcelain veneers, who for decades were the go-to provider for the fabulous smiles of A-list actors and entertainers, as well as with other premium labs. Where premium labs’ artistry comes in is taking the customized design our doctors provide, then creating porcelain dental veneers that shape and shade the porcelain to match your other teeth so that they look beautifully bright and completely natural.

Your Hollywood Smile Makeover may also include implants, crowns, bridges, or other restorations to build the best foundation for your porcelain veneers. Likewise, Invisalign may be needed first to correct your bite – this will make your veneers last as long as they should and give you the best return on your cosmetic investment. Laser gum contouring is done if needed to reduce a gummy smile or to produce symmetry in the smile.

The Hollywood Smile Makeover is designed to transform your smile into the best that it can be. Depending on how broadly you smile, at a minimum we place veneers on the upper teeth that show when you smile – usually eight to ten – since about everyone shows their top teeth when they smile – and you’ll be smiling often with your new smile. If your lower teeth also show, we’ll add veneers to the lower teeth as well. It’s the biggest cosmetic investment you can make, but it also should give you the best results that will have you smiling for years!

Here’s How We Place Porcelain Dental Veneers

First, you’ll come in and spend on average about two hours with your doctor getting prepped for your veneers. This includes taking 3-D laser digital impressions of your teeth, which are then sent to the lab, where the artists will custom-design each one to our specifications and match them to the color of your teeth. Two to three weeks later, you’ll spend about two hours getting your veneers permanently placed. Each one is bonded to the front of your teeth to cover stains, close small gaps and straighten crooked teeth – whatever your needs are. In fact, the dental veneers create a strong bond that actually strengthens each tooth. How cool is that? Best of all, they’re designed to be resistant to coffee, tea, sodas, and cigarettes. This way, you can drink up and enjoy your life without any worries. The end result: you’ll emerge with the appearance, function, and feel of real teeth that are amazingly bright – and with a Hollywood Smile that’s absolutely contagious!

Better Than a Facelift “I had so many problems with my teeth, I didn’t know where to start. They were worn-looking and discolored. To top things off, I was in my 50s and starting to feel my age. I felt as dull and frayed as my teeth. I had thought about a facelift, but I heard it was very painful. I ran into an old friend at a reunion and I was shocked at how young she looked. I asked her what she’d done to look so good and she told me she’d had a Smile Makeover at Dallas Laser Dentistry. I made an appointment immediately. First, at my initial smile consultation, I met with the dentist and I was so impressed with her knowledge and demeanor. Plus, I got my free Smile Simulation, which completely blew me away. I actually saw what my new smile would look like! After that, I completed a short stint wearing Invisalign® to correct my bite so that my veneers and crowns would last longer and then did laser teeth whitening. The last step was the DaVinci® veneers, the kind all Hollywood actors have. I could not believe my eyes when I saw my smile. In fact, when I saw how bright and shining it was, I cried. Yes, I did! I felt revived and rejuvenated – I looked decades younger! Forget that facelift! My smile makeover was all that I needed!”

#2 – The Dallas Smile Makeover. Patients whose teeth are shaped correctly and aren’t worn down, often come in not liking their smile because some of their teeth may be crowded or have gaps, or be twisted, or otherwise impact their smile negatively. Typically, they are also a bit yellowed with age, making them appear older than they are, because humans instinctively judge age by how white or dark the teeth are.

These folks don’t need us putting pretty veneers over their teeth to give them a great smile – they just need their teeth moved into the optimum position to create the best smile for their facial structure, lips, etc. Movement plus laser teeth whitening and they’ll look fantastic. We call this combination of Invisalign and laser teeth whitening our Dallas Smile Makeover.

While this makeover may take longer to complete than the Hollywood Makeover, we can speed up the process of tooth movement with Invisalign Orthodontics. No longer do you have to endure years of embarrassing metal in your mouth to get straight teeth. Dr. Mary Swift and Dr. Morgan Petty are Gold Providers of Invisalign aligners, a painless process that invisibly and comfortably straightens teeth – often in half the time of regular braces. You can straighten your teeth and hardly anyone will even know you’re doing orthodontics. At Dallas Laser Dentistry, everything starts with digital 3-D laser scans – we’re one of the few Invisalign offices in North Texas with this technology, which dramatically increases the accuracy and fit of the Invisalign aligners.

Here’s How Getting A Dallas Smile Makeover Works

To begin the process, we’ll record a model of your current mouth, so get ready for something totally different. Unlike Old School dentists who shove bulky trays full of goop in your mouth to take impressions, you’ll get a digital 3-D laser scan of your mouth. We’ll also take photographs and a panoramic X-ray. Dr. Swift or Dr. Petty will create a sequence in a software program for how the aligners will move your teeth during treatment. Then, with a click of a button, that digital plan is sent to the manufacturing facility where your aligners are created. In a few weeks, you’ll receive the first set of aligners that you’ll wear for one to two weeks at a time, removing only to brush, floss, and eat. Most people go through 18-30 sets of aligners, which takes on average about eight months. However, each person is different so the time varies. After you’re finished, you’ll need to continue to wear a retainer, but only at night to keep your teeth from drifting and undoing the treatment. It’s such a fast, easy process! Learn more about Invisalign orthodontics.

Following the completion of the Invisalign treatment, we’ll do two rounds of laser whitening treatments, designed to whiten your teeth to the level you had as a teenager. If you need laser gum contouring after your teeth have been moved we do that. Then we hand you the mirror – your Dallas Smile Makeover is complete, and you look great!

From Gummy to Gorgeous. “Ever since I was a kid, I’d been teased about my gummy smile. ‘Hey, Gummy Bear!’ is what I heard and every time, I cringed. Over the years, I became very self-conscious about this and started to feel like a misfit, ultimately leading me to be depressed. I had heard that Dallas Laser Dentistry might be able to help me with their Smile Makeover so I made an appointment. My doctor suggested we start with laser gum contouring, which was music to my ears. Then I got laser teeth whitening. The final step was DaVinci veneers on my four front teeth. When I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t believe how beautiful my teeth were! After all, was said and done, I realized that not only was my smile “made over,” I was, too! I have never felt younger, more refreshed–or more attractive.”

#3 – Basic Smile Makeovers. Many patients come in not wanting to transform their smile, but simply to tweak or fix it up a bit – basic cosmetic improvements. For these patients, we customize the treatment options to their need. Just about everyone’s smile benefits from teeth whitening, which is the least expensive way to make your smile better. Some may want laser gum contouring or replacing a missing tooth with an implant or bridge. Some may need crowns for teeth that have become shortened as they were ground down over the years. Sometimes veneers are used but on fewer teeth. Whatever the situation calls for, we can recommend and provide the optimal treatment to accomplish what the patient desires.

New Smile. New Man. “I’d been unhappy about my smile for years. My two front teeth were different sizes and my upper and lower teeth had spaces. My teeth were a mess. I just didn’t feel like my best self. In fact, the way I felt about my smile started to affect me, causing me to become insecure when I was speaking to my colleagues, hesitating to say what I really felt for fear that I’d show my teeth. I’d heard about something called a ‘Smile Makeover’ at Dallas Laser Dentistry and knew I had to have this procedure. My doctor knew exactly what to do. It turned out that my bite was off, causing me to wear down and lose teeth. With crowns and implants, they completely corrected my bite and rebuilt my smile. Talk about a makeover! My smile was so amazing I felt like a totally new man!”

Can I Afford An Award-Winning Smile Makeover?

Obviously, everyone’s disposable income and priorities for spending it are different. If improving your smile is a priority for you, we’ll do our best to help you afford our cosmetic dentistry services. Plus, as you’ve read, different smile makeovers have different costs, so depending on the type and amount of work done there are different levels of cost available when getting a Smile Makeover. Here are some options to either reduce the cost upfront or spread the payments over time:

  1. Dental Insurance – while dental insurance won’t cover any of the cost of the cosmetic procedures, if you have dental insurance it will help offset some of the cost of any restorative procedures needed to get your oral health optimized so we can do the cosmetics.
  2. Preferred Patient Membership Program – we have an annual cosmetics plan that not only includes all your diagnostic, X-ray, and preventive care, but members also receive a 15% discount on any cosmetic work done.
  3. Modeling Agreement – we may offer a discount on treatment in return for unlimited rights to use your before/after images, reviews, and stories in our marketing.
  4. 3rd Party Financing – Credit-worthy patients may qualify for 3rd party financing for up to 60 months.
  5. Credit Cards – we accept most major credit cards.

Smile Makeover Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

02

For most of our patients the answer has been “Yes”! When you change your smile, you often change your life in both subtle and obvious ways. If you’ve been ashamed to smile, and now can’t help smiling all the time, everyone around you will notice the difference and subconsciously perceive and interact with you differently. Our patients have reported new jobs, raises and promotions, new relationships, improved relationships, being told that they look younger, improved self-confidence and self-esteem. The list goes on. Remember, this is not a dress rehearsal. You’ve got one life and one smile. Make them dazzling!

03

Yes. Statistics show that you have :10 to make an impression, to “wow” someone, or not…. With a smile makeover, you’ll maximize your impact – and improve your life exponentially. We like to think of a new smile as an investment that never stops paying you in compliments. Another way to think about a new smile is this – beautiful cars lose their value. Beautiful smiles don’t.

04

Yes. In fact, what reveals your age most is the color and shape of your teeth. When you get a new smile, you immediately look younger. It’s the modern-day fountain of youth and a lot better (and a lot less painful) than a facelift. In fact, many patients have reported that as soon as they got their new smile, people commented that they looked younger – or that they’ve lost weight. Before you hire a trainer, change your smile.

05

No. We’ve perfected the art of the smile. Our doctors take into consideration the whole picture – your face shape, your lips, the symmetry of your gums and face. In essence, our doctors are artisans and you are the canvas. Like a fingerprint, no smile is alike. That’s why we work to create a dazzling, contagious smile that’s you and only you.

06

No. Many people in Hollywood and business have been getting new smiles for years. We’re just making it more accessible to the general public. Truth is, a white smile never goes out of style. Think about this – you invest in a fabulous wardrobe, why wear a less-than smile? A dazzling smile is a classic, important accessory that completes any outfit.

07

First, you’ll look aesthetically better. Straight teeth boost your confidence. In fact, some patients have seen them as powerful game-changers in all areas of their lives. However, there are some very real health issues. To start, straight teeth allow you to chew, bite and speak more effectively than crooked teeth. But it goes deeper than this. Here are a few of the main disorders associated with crooked teeth:
Periodontitis or gum disease – Begins with a bacterial infection. The bacterial infection is caused by inadequate oral hygiene. Crooked teeth are hard to effectively clean, which means that debris, plaque, and bacteria can build up in hard-to-reach areas. Straight teeth are much easier to clean and you are at less risk of contracting gum disease, or better able to manage existing gum disease.
Temporomandibular Disorder (TMJ) – Crooked teeth can lead to improper jaw alignment, which in turn causes a painful condition known as TMJ. Severe headaches, jaw pain and grinding of teeth characterize this debilitating disorder.
Tooth injury – Straight teeth create a strong wall, which means injuries are less likely to occur. Crooked teeth are weaker and often protrude, making them far more vulnerable to external injury.
Uneven wear – Crooked teeth cause some of the teeth to work harder than others when biting and chewing. Straight teeth share the workload evenly, meaning less risk of injury and better aesthetics, and less dental work and money spent replacing cracked teeth the rest of your life.
Given all these things, either orthodontic braces or Invisalign are your best bet. In fact, we’ve found that for adults, Invisalign is the most effective. The aligners are removable and used in most cases, except when malocclusion is extremely severe, or if there are underlying bone issues that require surgery or fixed braces. You will change the aligners every week for the duration of your treatment.

08

Missing teeth are unattractive, especially if they are more visible. If they are not so visible, then you can hide them, until you open your mouth wide to laugh or eat and then they’ll be visible. The truth is when you have missing teeth, you give the impression that somehow personal grooming and hygiene is not important. And in the business world, or any world for that matter, this is paramount. First impressions count.
However, there are more than just aesthetic issues at play. Missing teeth can cause health problems because they’re like a house of cards. When a tooth is lost, the jawbone that supports the tooth begins to atrophy, causing the teeth on either side to shift or tip into the open space of the lost tooth. The tooth above or below the open space will start to move towards the open space because there is no opposing tooth to bite on. This can cause decay, gum disease, excessive wear on certain teeth, and even cracking of other teeth. These kinds of things don’t happen immediately, but in time, they can. Fortunately, you have options:

Implants – These are artificial roots that are surgically placed into the jaw to replace one or more missing teeth. An artificial tooth is placed on the implant, creating a natural look. They’re also stable and the best alternative to a bridge. It’s a great way to create a beautiful smile.
Fixed Bridges – this type of bridge is made of porcelain or composite material and is permanently anchored to the two natural teeth adjacent to the missing site. It’s very sturdy and stable. The downside is that two healthy, natural teeth have to be crowned to hold the bridge in place, which damages these teeth. However, you still won’t be burdened with a missing tooth, which is the end game.
Removable Bridges – in complex dental situations, this is a good alternative when other replacements are not possible. Removable bridges are made of tooth-colored artificial teeth that have metal clasps that hook onto adjacent teeth. The upside is that they’re the most economical option; however, they might not look the best because the metal clasps on the appliances are hard to conceal.
Dentures – When all or most of your teeth are missing in one dental arch, dentures are a good option. They’re removable artificial teeth that are made to look like your original teeth.
No matter what you choose to replace your missing teeth, it will be better than continuing to live without them. Beautiful, full smiles are what contribute to high self-esteem. Don’t you think you deserve one?

09

While Laser teeth whitening is relatively inexpensive, a Smile Makeover is expensive as most people define it, but it’s also an investment in yourself. At Dallas Laser Dentistry, we work with you to create a customized plan that will provide the optimal results. We can also recommend other solutions that are more affordable in the short term, if needed. However, your teeth are the key to your overall health and appearance, which means most people understand and choose to take the long view. Investing in quality cosmetic dental work is something that’s well worth it, especially as you age.

010

Our main goal is to help you get the smile of your dreams. That’s why we’ve partnered with some excellent companies to provide you with options, should you want to spread the payment over time. There are lots of choices based on the amount financed and the number of payments selected. We also accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover. We can help you with the application process and assist you with setting up your payment plan – often in just minutes online while in the office. Just call us and we’ll make it happen.

011

It depends on what you’re having done. If it’s laser teeth whitening and DaVinci veneers you’ll be finished in two or three appointments. If we need to add Invisalign or implants, it will take longer. However, for our Hollywood Smile Makeover, you can dramatically transform your smile in as few as three appointments over three weeks.

012

90% last 10+ years, and 80% 20+ years. But regular check-ups and cleanings are necessary to ensure the best possible outcome.

013

Pain levels differ from patient to patient. That said, we strive to make everything we do as pain-free as possible during the procedure. If you are nervous about your procedure, we offer Sedation Dentistry. This way, you can sleep through the process, then wake up with a contagious smile.

014

Not usually, but if you experience any discomfort, it has to do with your teeth rehydrating or dehydrating before, during and after the bleaching. However, for most patients this tingling sensation is minimal and brief.

015

In a word, yes. But it won’t be something you can’t handle. Brushing, flossing, a nightguard, and regular check-ups every six months will keep the smile you’ve invested in looking beautiful.

016

Yes. There are no other risks than those associated with regular dental work, which are minimal to none.

017

No, not really. Just a little bit of pressure for a day when you change trays. You’ll be amazed how comfortable the aligners are. Because they’re customized to fit your teeth and changed every week or two, you’ll hardly notice they’re there.

018

No, dental insurance will not cover any cosmetic procedure.

019

No, they actually can strengthen the teeth if properly done.

020

Occasionally, a veneer might break or come off, such as if you’re biting an ice cube. Most patients never have that happen, but if it does, we consider that a “dental emergency” and we will see you immediately, even if the office is closed, to get it fixed.

021

They are very thin shells of tooth-shaped porcelain that are individually crafted to cover the front and side surface of teeth. Created to our specifications by our labs in Hollywood or Utah, they are very lifelike in their appearance, durable and won’t stain, making them a very popular solution for people who want to restore or enhance the beauty of their smile for years. Veneers can be used to restore or correct these conditions:

Severely discolored or stained teeth, particularly if whitening can’t correct the issue
Unwanted or uneven spaces
Worn or chipped teeth
Slight tooth crowding
Misshapen teeth
Teeth that are too small or too large

022

It usually requires two visits. Your teeth are prepped by reducing the front surface of the teeth to allow for the small thickness of veneers. Then, we take a digital 3-D scan of your teeth – we’re one of the very few dentists in Dallas with this technology. Then, this scan is sent to the lab, where each veneer is custom-made for shape and color for your unique smile.
Two weeks later, we receive your custom veneers and place them on your teeth. The veneers are carefully fitted and bonded onto the surface of your teeth. A specialized light is used to harden and set the bond. Veneers can dramatically improve your teeth and give you a natural, contagious smile.

023

A cosmetic dentist focuses on any dental work that improves the appearance of your teeth and gums. Mainly cosmetic dentistry improves the aesthetics of a patient’s smile. Not only does a cosmetic dentist focus on the preventative and restorative side of dentistry, they also provide service to help with the look of your smile. This includes considering the aesthetics when restoring teeth, as well as purely cosmetic procedures to improve your overall smile.

024

Cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized specialty by the American Dental Association, so any general dentist may call themselves a cosmetic dentist even if they have little experience doing cosmetic dentistry. General dentists are skilled in providing basic restorative and preventative care. Cosmetic dentists have the same training in preventative and restorative dentistry that general dentists have, but they have focused their practice on improving patient’s smiles through additional clinical education about cosmetic procedures and techniques and significant experience providing cosmetic services to patients.

025

Whether you are looking to dramatically improve the appearance of your smile or simply whiten your teeth, you should want to visit a cosmetic dentist to have the work done. Cosmetic dentists have the most experience doing cosmetic dental procedures, have relationships with dental labs they know provide the highest quality cosmetic work, and are in the best position to recommend the best treatment to satisfy your goals. Cosmetic dentistry is often a significant investment that changes the way you look the rest of your life – experience counts!

026

Asking friends or relatives who have had cosmetic dentistry about what was done, their experience with the dentist and staff, and directly observing the results is one good approach.
Google can be a good resource for which cosmetic dentists you look into more closely – make sure to look for organic results rather than the 3 paid results at the top of the page. Then check out Google’s top organic results to see how many Google reviews they have and their average score. For the highest of those, go to their website and look for before/after pictures to see some of their actual work. See if they’ve won any awards for cosmetic dentistry, such as the Consumer’s Choice Award voted on by patients, as well as whether they’ve been listed as a “Super Dentist” by Texas Monthly or as a “Best Dentist” by D Magazine, which is voted on by other dentists. Then visit your top pick for a consultation and see how well they listen to your desires and then make your decision!

027

Usually, yes. Invisalign is an alternative to traditional braces, where clear aligners are used to gently move teeth into place. Since having a perfect bite is very important to making sure cosmetic procedures last so you get your best return on your investment, experienced cosmetic dentists will often use Invisalign first to get the bite perfect and then do the cosmetic treatments. Also, sometimes all a patient with good teeth needs to maximize their smile is to straighten their teeth with Invisalign and then do laser teeth whitening. When we do our complimentary smile consultation with each potential patient, we discuss the options available and which ones will best achieve the patient’s goals. Not everyone needs veneers to have a Hollywood Smile!

028

Absolutely it does, just like it does in most other businesses and other aesthetic medical fields like plastic surgery. The best cosmetic dentistry is both art and science, and your new smile impacts you for the rest of your life. The best cosmetic dentists ask and get more for their work, because their experience has provided more happy patient outcomes. Additionally, the best cosmetic dentists may also have higher fees because they utilize more expensive materials and best lab craftsmen to create the cosmetic restorations they design, and their intent is to make the lifetime value better for their patients by having their work last longer. In fact, the higher the fee the more likely their skill, because with social media today if the result wasn’t worth the cost everyone would quickly find out.

029

Cosmetic dentistry involves any procedure that improves the appearance of your teeth, mouth or bite – a Smile Makeover for instance. Common cosmetic dentistry procedures include teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, dental implants, crowns, bonding, and shaping. Cosmetic dentists in Texas are also general dentists, so they provide all the diagnostic, preventative, and restorative procedures that a family dentist would provide. They are also very good at providing excellent ongoing routine care to make sure that cosmetic patients are doing the things needed to get the best return on their cosmetic investment.
